The Angel Brothers return, after almost a decade away, with a new album, Paradise Smoot, live dates and a new line-up, featuring new members and original players from the days of the band's first album, From Punjab to Pit Top, back in 2002.
The band consists of Dave Angel (guitars), Keith Angel (percussion), Luke Carver-Goss (accordion, guitar and vocals) and Andy Seward (double bass and electric bass). The new album also includes fantastic contributions from Richard Cook on rhythm guitar, and keyboards by the legendary Dave Formula, of Magazine and Visage fame, who is now the proprietor of the Sweet Factory Studio in Louth, where much of the material was recorded.
We have been developing a dynamic live set that is built around the Latin-flavoured tunes that make up the new album, 'classic' Angel brothers pieces from the last three albums and several of Luke's original songs.
Luke Carver Goss and Ian McMillan (another long-time friend and collaborator of the band) also recently recorded their new album at the Sweet Factory. The record was produced by Keith Angel and features Angel Brothers band members on many of the tracks, so it made perfect sense to present some of Luke and Ian's thought-provoking original songs as part of the live show.
Both albums are due for release in the new year and we are currently planning a series of joint launch events, so watch this space...
Accompanied by our indispensable live-sound engineer, Phil Reay, The Angel Brothers recently played to packed houses at the Musicport Festival (Whitby) and the Our Island Our World Festival (Peel, Isle of Man), where we received a fabulous reception from the audiences, who seemed genuinely thrilled to have us back!
Inspired by such a warm welcome and enthusiasm, we are now busy sorting out a more extensive series of live dates for next year.
It's good to be back and we hope to see you soon.
